Author's Tea

The Wonderful Learners worked SO incredibly hard on three particular pieces of writing since the turn of the new year.  They returned from their winter break and wrote a personal narrative about one thing they did during their vacation.  Throughout their study of simple machines, they wrote and illustrated about each simple machine they learned about. To conclude this study, they created a PicCollage mini poster using the PicCollage app to show what they learned about one simple machine of their choice.  These three pieces of writing were the basis for our special Author's Tea. We invited our first grade friends and many special adults to come and enjoy some tea and cookies as they listened to us read our writing.  The room was full of pride and smiles.  Enjoy our moments!

Alex was polite enough to offer and serve Mr. Trill a cookie and tea!

Happy 100th Day of Second Grade! 🍎

We enjoyed a 100th day snack to celebrate our awesome learning.

Each learner took a turn to add a way they could make 100 to our class poster. Mrs. M and Ms. Eastman had mathematical ideas too!

Happy 100th day smiles...   😃

"This is awesome!"

Simple machine museum

Look at the simple machine museum we have created from tools we have at home!

We learned how to make a screw!

We know a screw is made from a pole and an inclined plane.

When the inclined plane wraps around the pole, it creates the threads in the screw.

Ta-da!

Breakfast Budddies!

We enjoyed breakfast with the fourth grade class this Wednesday morning. We observed how it looked and felt too enjoy our breakfast in the classroom.  The fourth grade ambassadors were wonderful models for us. We plan to begin eating breakfast in our classroom next week! Thanks for having us fourth grade!

The lever

We partnered up to create and label the three parts of a lever.

After we agreed on the position and name of each object, we drew our work in our simple machine books.
We discovered that the closer the fulcrum is to the load you are moving, the easier it is to move it.  You use less effort and force with the fulcrum closer to the load.  Great discovery scientists!

Synonyms with the help of Bluster!

We are learning about synonyms.  The app called Bluster helped us to find three words that were similar in meaning. It's a great app. You should check it out at home for free!
