Amphibian observation
The second grade scientists were lucky enough to have the opportunity to observe two frogs. These frogs lived their entire lives at the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory. They were well taken care of in their days at the Conservatory. They preserve these frogs in order for scientists likes us to learn from them.
Alex noticed the backbone in this bullfrog! He found evidence that it belongs to the vertebrate group.
We had to keep their bodies cold so they were presented on ice packs. This helped us to observe a few minutes more!
We are pleased to have the fourth grade tortoise, Speedy visit us tomorrow. Three fourth grade ambassadors will accompany Speedy to our classroom. They will foster conversation about his characteristics and care as well as answer our questions regarding the reptile and amphibian groups. Be watching for photos soon!

Welcome spring!
We welcomed spring by reading about the life cycle of the chick. We shared and discussed new vocabulary about this life cycle with our friends.
Following our discussion, we viewed a video and watched a real chick hatch!
We finished this short study with a visit from Bryanna's chicks! These fluffy visitors helped us to put our learning into our own hands! 🐥
Bryanna, Lilly, and Son Hui taught us how to carefully hold their adorable chicks.

The world according to second grade
Bryanna thought it would be a good idea to display our continent work as it would look in the real world. She even had friends help her include the equator and oceans! Great idea Bryanna!

Continent Share
We partnered up with our first grade friends to share our continent posters. We worked hard to research the location of our continent and included a major river, three countries, a compass rose, a map key, and labeled surrounding oceans. They are amazing works of art!

Family Math Night
We learned math from one another! Many families joined "The Wonderful Learners" for a family math night. To start off the evening, the second graders solved a story problem in a variety of ways.
